Building a New Chapter: Carole’s Transition from Education to Construction

Carole reached out to ANTA Education in response to their advert for a CSCS card course. Despite having a big interest in construction when young, life took her in a different direction and she became a primary school teacher. She retired after 16 years of working in education and with her children now adults themselves she decided to put the focus back to her dream of building houses.

She had gained a degree in Building Surveying degree many years before but was concerned her learning was all theory and she had no practical experience. To get herself closer to being on site, Carole decided gaining her CSCS card was her next logical step as the card shows employers that you have the right health and safety knowledge to work on site safely.

Carole completed the Level 1 Health & Safety in Construction course, passing her exam with flying colours scoring 39/40. She quickly started revising for the final exam which was more in depth and requiring a score of over 45/50 to pass. However, such was her dedication she flew through this exam too scoring 50/50!

In the midst of revising for her exam, Carole applied for and got accepted on to the ‘Women into Construction’ programme which is being run by the House Builders Federation where she’ll finally get that hands-on experience shadowing a site manager with Tilia Homes!

Carole says “It’s remarkable that I did my building surveying degree 30 years ago then became a primary school teacher, and it’s even more remarkable that I’m in my late 50’s so I’m thrilled to have secured a place!”

I received excellent support, help and guidance from ANTA. They led me through my training, helped with revision and kept in touch along the way via email, phone and text. They even ordered my green card for me upon passing my exam and it was delivered to my door.  Thank you ANTA, I can't thank you enough."

Carole’s course was funded by the UKSPF fund from South Staffordshire Council. If you’d like to find out how we can support you if you live in this area, you can get in touch by calling 01952 973200 or emailing rachel@antaeducation.co.uk
